Abstract : Infections troublesome in even optimal health care environments can be a source of serious and persistent concern for local populations and health care workers during a disaster and in austere environments such as those found in Iraq and Afghanistan. For these scenarios it is vital to have standard infection control practices in place and to have them used consistently. Only then will healthcare workers be able to contain the potential spread of disease and improve conditions for those affected.Published by Elsevier Inc.PMID 20510706 PubMed - indexed for MEDLINEPublication Types MeSH TermsPublication Types Historical ArticleMeSH TermsChecklist/historyDisaster Planning/history*Disasters/historyDisease ManagementDisease Notification/historyDisease Outbreaks/historyHistory 19th CenturyHistory 20th CenturyHistory 21st CenturyHistory AncientHistory MedievalHumansInfection Control/history*Military Nursing/history*Population SurveillanceTerrorism/historyUnited StatesLinkOut - more resourcesFull Text SourcesElsevier ScienceW.B.
