Abstract : Recently much interest has been centered on the behavior of ions in mixed solvent systems. It has been realized that ion-solvation can be better understood in mixed solvents than in pure solvents, because the dielectric constant and viscosity of medium can be varied to a desired value in the mixed solvents. For the study of ion-solvent interactions, water has been used extensively as a component in mixed solvent due to its easy availability and high dielectric constant. In such solvent mixtures, however the solvent structural changes were generally stronger ion-solvent interactions and it has been very difficult to explain whether the changes in required parameters of electrolytes were because ion-solvation effects or due to changes in the solvent structure. There are various types of interactions, which exist between ions in solutions. Of these solute-solvent interactions appear to be most important. - Slides    less
